The Face Behind "Hard Working Money"

After 25 years as an executive in the financial services industry (and disliking much of what I saw) I left to start my own investment advisory firm. The traditional approach to investment products and advice is seriously flawed and needs change. My new book, Your Nest Egg Game Plan, my blog, my writings elsewhere in print and online, and this website are beginning steps in that process.

Phil's Bio

I have 25 years of experience in the financial services industry and am currently President of I-Pension LLC, an innovative registered investment advisory firm focused on providing low-cost, high-quality investment advice to the people who need it most -- middle-income working Americans. Prior to this position I held executive-level positions at Rydex Investments, Columbia Funds and Sun Life Financial.

In addition to advising and coaching individual investors, I teach several investing topics at the Boston Center for Adult Education and lecture once a semester on "Leadership and Ethics" at Boston College.

My diverse experience has one common element: a focus on translating complicated subject matter into language that is simple and understandable. Whether discussing investment strategies, mutual funds, or asset allocation theories, I like to put myself in the place of the reader and craft messages that resonate and motivate. As an investment advisor working with clients, I strongly believe that I have an obligation to educate and explain the full array of investment options available before recommending a particular solution. And through all interactions with clients, I always stress that "it's your money." My role is to advise and guide, serve as a sounding board, and remove some of the emotion that often clouds people's investment decisions.

With a wife, two children, and two yellow Labrador retrievers, I lead an active and balanced life. Writing has always been a key driver of my personal satisfaction, and Marketing for Rainmakers (Wiley 2008) and Your Nest Egg Game Plan (Career Press 2009) are the latest entries in a growing list of published works.
